The Evolution of The Airpark

1967
Aviation pioneer, Max Clear establishes the Te Kowhai Airfield near Hamilton.
1983
Max Clear's first microlight Bantam B10 built and flown from the Te Kowhai Airfield and his company Micro Aviation is founded.
1986
B22 Bantam Production began.
1990
Barry and Sally Readman purchase the neighbouring farm.
1991
Barsal Aircraft Covers relocates to Te Kowhai Airfield.
1992
The Airfield is extended to 980 m long, using 300m of land owned by Barry and Sally Readman.
1999
The Airpark concept was first discussed with Waikato District Council.
2011
The 300th Bantam fly and New Zealand's first aviation trade show, NZ Flair, is held at the airfield.
2016
Te Kowhai Airfield is purchased by it's current ownership group.
2022
Land Rezoning successful to allow development.
2024
First Airpark sections go on sale.

Paul
Andrew
Paul is a local businessman. Pauls two boys attended Te Kowhai Primary School. Paul learned to fly at Te Kowhai in 2002 in Bantam microlights. Paul now holds a Private Pilots Licence and has a Cessna based at the aerodrome. Paul is responsible for the sales and marketing of the Airpark.
Dan
Readman
Dan is an Airline Captain for Air New Zealand and lives on the aerodrome. Dan learned to fly at Te Kowhai Aerodrome in the 1980's and holds both an Airline Transport Pilots Licence and a Private Pilots Licence for Helicopters. Dan has a YAK-52 based at the aerodrome and is responsiblefor Operational Compliance at the Airpark.
Regan
Brown
Regan is a local accountant. Regan's two boys attended Te Kowhai Primary School. Regan learned to fly at Te Kowhai in 2010 and holds a Private Pilots Licence. Regan has a Cirrus based at the aerodrome. Regan is responsible for finance and administration of the Airpark.
Leonard
Gardner
Leonard is the Commercial Director of the Foster Construction Group, whose purpose is creating built environments where communities thrive. With this commitment and passion for community, creating a vibrant aviation community at Te Kowhai airpark is something Leonard is excited about.
Leonard along with Andrew and Tony are responsible for the overall development of the Airpark, and he has been personal friends with Paul and Regan for over 25 years.

Andrew is the Senior Development Manager at Foster Develop. Andrew is a keen aviator who holds a Private Pilots Licence in a Helicopter. Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Airpark development team.

Tony is a Director of ProperT Limited, a company that specialises in property development. Tony has over 30 years’ experience in the property industry and has been instrumental in delivering many of the Waikato’s largest subdivision and commercial developments. Tony is responsible for the design, consenting and delivery of the Airpark development.

asked questions
Yes, we have been working on the Airpark development for the last 7 years! Rezoning has been secured and Resource Consent applications have been filed with Waikato District and Regional Councils. Construction of the first stage is due to get underway late this year.
The Airpark sections are being released in stages. Our focus is releasing and selling Stage 1 to get the development started. These are the most desirable sections, closest to the runway and amenities. Stage 2 will be released once 80% of Stage 1 sections have been sold. Further stages will be released based on demand. (i.e. if demand is there for smaller sections, then we may prioritise the release of a higher-density stage).
The Airpark is all about developing and supporting a vibrant aviation community for all to enjoy. We have a number of community facilities which are already well utilised and will be further developed. We also have several flying groups and clubs who operate from the Airpark.
Yes, there is a commercial area proposed for the Airpark as one of the future stages. This commercial precinct allows for on-site aircraft maintenance facilities and other aviation related businesses. We are taking leasing enquiry for commercial spaces.
Yes, there is a planned upgrade of the main buildings, which will include new Airpark Owners Association community facilities. Priority of the upgrades will be determined by the members of the Airpark Owners Association.
A percentage of the sales proceeds from all sections sold go directly into the Future Development Fund. This fund will be used to prioritise and develop community facilities and Airpark improvements over time.
The Airpark is 3km to Te Kowhai Village, 9.5km to The Base Shopping Centre and 13km to the centre of Hamilton City. The Airpark is 108km drive to Auckland International Airport and 34km drive to Hamilton Regional Airport. It's only a 36km drive to Raglan!
Yes, we will have regular flying activities and will form a flying club in due course. It is going to be GREAT!
Each owner is encouraged to use Green Building Practices including sustainable building practices and eco-friendly materials and ensuring proper insulation and ventilation to reduce environmental impacts. Each dwelling will also utilise rainwater harvesting with tank water supply.
